I am a recent Master’s of Industrial & Labor Relations graduate from Cornell University. My business mindset coupled with the strategic learnings of the program have allowed me to tackle a variety of organizational issues. Visual management, standard work, and the creation of novel programs are just a few experiences detailed below that display my passion and capability to help drive positive business outcomes. Known to be a quick learner by peers and supervisors, I approach problems with an analytical approach that helps me thrive in autonomous environments and delve deep into both quantitative and qualitative problems.
What sets me apart? I indulge myself in business activities outside of the workplace. For the past 6 years I have bought and sold over 500 items including shoes, speakers, and motorbikes. This hobby has allowed me to understand the importance of customer interaction, marketing, and ROI. My drive has helped me build my own brand and reputation which has given me key, transferable insights into how to be successful in the business world.
As a part of the Global Payroll Team I took on increasing responsibility immediately - processing and auditing over 2000 terminations, 500 wage adjustments, dozens of salary changes, payroll advances, and negotiated vacation terms. I learned how state laws and regulations impact pay, specifically in California which has specific guidelines around final paychecks. I also worked with garnishments simultaneously to ensure correct payment amounts. Working cross-functionally allowed me to gain a better understanding of how Costco operates, as I was able to work with warehouse locations across the country to guarantee paycheck accuracy and compliance with both state and federal laws.
While residing in the talent function I was able to impact multiple parts of the business. I standardized work processes within HR in order to create a visual management system that tracks the development of high potential employees. In creating the system, I analyzed over 100 survey responses and consolidated over 30 metrics in order to provide leaders within all functions timely and tailored information that helps retain top performers. I also analyzed and externally benchmarked both leadership development and tuition reimbursement programs to help the organization stand out in the increasingly competitive recruiting landscape. Other projects included designing a continuous learning process utilizing LinkedIn Learning and developing measures to address the growing legislative requirements surrounding pay equity.
In a generalist role I touched all facets of HR. I created an apprenticeship program for car detailers to facilitate on-the-job learning and career development. This involved designing a novel sourcing strategy and model for training. I also created total compensation statements for over 350 employees that gave personalized and itemized lists of benefit plans and perks. I also positively affected the same employees by creating a new performance review process that drastically reduced time allocated in providing and receiving feedback. I was able to impact thousands of employees by creating a wage budget increase that helped the organization project future fund allocations. Using company data, I helped the organization take a proactive approach and created pay equity reports that outlined potential pay inequities. Within HR I improved performance by creating performance metrics that tracked ADP processes.
In the Attention & Performance Lab at Oregon State University I was able to work with Dr. Lien in examining visual attention in processing facial emotion – evidence against the immunity of faces to attentional blink. Within the lab, I led multiple studies that further explored this relationship. I worked with over 100 participants and examined data to understand how people encode visual stimuli into their working memory. I had the opportunity to present this research at the Celebrating Undergraduate Excellence Symposium.
